brown poncho

I made this poncho with Lion Brand Al•Pa•Ka in Mink Brown. It is a synthetic and natural fiber blend featuring alpaca. The body of the yarn is brown but it has fuzzy bits ranging from white to brown. The yarn and the poncho tend to shed heavily. I knit two rectangles in stocking stitch with a one-stitch garter stitch selvage along the sides and then joined the ends of the two rectangles together at right angles. Because the stocking stitch edges want to roll up, I crocheted an edging using single, treble, and double crochet. It still wants to roll up so I have to be careful to straighten it out when it is drying after a wash. I fulled the poncho so it would have a bit of thickness. I would use a smaller needle next time for a thicker fabric that stays put. The design is based on one I found in Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2000 for a light-weight rayon yarn and with I-cord edging. Completed March 2002.
