blue crocheted necklace

Inspired by the red Rowan crocheted necklace that I made recently, I decided to design my own necklace. I picked out beads that would remind me of the beach. The wire was a problem because they didn't sell Addi-Wire at the store. After some research, I decided to use Soft Touch, a nylon covered wire by Soft Flex that I ended up liking quite a lot. It has more spring than Addi-Wire so the necklace has some more resiliency and strength. This is important since I learned that Addi-Wire is somewhat fragile.

The necklace has these nice blues and greens, reminiscent of the sea for me. Since the dark blue Chiclets and the light blue Good & Plenties are glass beads, the necklace reminds me of glass washed up on the beach. There are also some pretty little faceted and matte beads and leaf shapes in there that look like the odd small treasures one might find in the sand. When you rub the strands together, it sounds like rolling stones on the beach when the tide comes in. I've received many compliments on the necklace.

This necklace is constructed like the red one: The beads are strung onto wire and then crocheted into a chain. The chain is wound around into a circle, and then findings are attached. Completed November 2004.
