bias corset

This was a gorgeous project, really worth the time it takes to do any small-needle knit. However, the pattern needs some clarification/tweaks. The pattern gives 1" wearing ease; however, I would be more generous and say that ease was about 2". Of course, you don't want to stretch the heck out of it because then it becomes super see-through. I did two things that made me very happy. I added some length to the piece because I thought it would be riding up. The other thing I did was to knit all the yarn over's twisted so that there would not be huge lacey holes. Although it made the piece less "feminine," I also don't have any peekaboo issue. I had a big problem with the neckline. That got really really wide and bowl-like, as if there was whalebone in the corset. In the ideal world, I would switch to the smaller pair of needles for the top half of the cup shaping. Since it's too late to do that, and I couldn't be bothered to rip back, I undid the I-cord bind off, and redid it with size 1 needles (e.g., 1 size smaller than the smallest needle size called for in the pattern). That fixed the bowl-like quality. There is still some bulging going on just below the bind-off, but not a huge deal. Completed December 2006.
